Something tells me English isn't their first language.

It is!

Ok so I found out why!!!

The guy whos 38, suffered a stroke last year, apparently he does have trouble with language even though his first language is English.
He does say some odd things now and then, but the "cheers" thing seems to have stuck... the other guys are just being friendly and there for moral support so they take part so he doesnt feel to uncomfortable.

Shouldnt be so quick to judge....

Cheers is like ciao. It can be used in greeting or parting... or drinking.
