Went to the Cheetah centre near Haartebeesport today.

Got to stroke a cheetah.:cool::cool:

I knew they purr, but didn't realize how insanely loud it is.:wtf:

2x knowledgeable & enthusiastic tour-guides.

They also have wild dogs, rooikat (caracal), wild cats & honey badgers.

Anyway, thought I'd report back. Definitely a good adventure for a family. Binoculars no, but a DSLR would be a good idea. Not exactly cheap (R245 pp & separate charge for touching the cheetahs), but worthwhile imo.:)

Did the cheetah lick you? I had one lick my arm & hand in the Eastern Cape, their tongues are really rough!! Had to keep moving my arm every few seconds

I went to the one at Spier in the beginning of September, the cheetah that visitors were allowed to touch looked like it had been tranquillised. It hardly even opened its eyes.

Hey, I like pu ssy of all persuasions even if they don't always reciprocate.

Maybe I'm just not persuasive enough.

Down here we have been to the Seaview Game Park where you can spend time with the white lion cubs (and others), as well as the Kragga Kamma Game Park where they have a "tame" cheetah, amongst others.

I went to Seaview, R50 to visit 7 lion cubs. Then went to Daniel Cheetah Sanctuary (inland past Despatch somewhere), that was R40 to pet a fully grown female cheetah, a servil & 2 lion cubs.

Yes, Despatch is the game park between PE and Uitenhage!!

I stroked one at Spier and it got cross with me.
They gave pretty strict instructions on what we can & cannot do. tbh I don't think trying to get it to lick me would have ended well. Its hunting instincts were still pretty much there. They told us 3x: No running. Running = prey. Guess what the small kid does... One could see the hunting instinct kicking in in its eyes. Thankfully the staff caught that situation asap (One shouting at kid, the other shouting at cheetah).

If the kid was annoying, should have let him run so you could see the cheetah in action :p

Sounds awesome; must still do that.

I said "if the kid was annoying"!
Good parents know how to keep their children under control :D

used to live in Hartbeesboort, don`t recall a cheetah centre.. just the sad zoo and the elephant sanctuary.
Would like to take my wife to the cheetah place, she loves cats... where exactly is it?

Got to Spend some time with one for my Thirteenth Birthday... *Sigh* Aaaaah Good Times, Good Times.

Our guide was very relaxed, hardly gave us any instructions at all. I think it just started licking cos it was such a hot day & we were sweating. Here's a pic of it sandpapering my arm http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=18537&cat=500
