AAD 2012 is around the corner and i need a camera.

Where can i get one ? a 2nd hand camera that will enable me to attach a 200mm lense.

Can you not rent one then, if it's for a short period?

Do you have a 200mm lens? If so what brand is it?

I agree with shogun - renting might be a better option. A canon with a 100-400mm should serve you well.

Kameraz in Rosebank is one of the classics. Radiolens in Hatfield also used to be a good place for second hand, but I don't know how much of their stock was moved to the new shop. Another good place to browse is the classifieds on the Outdoor Photo website (their shop also rents out equipment, which may be a better bet as shogun mentioned).

BTW: I used to use a 200mm lens for airshows but the results were disappointing - way too much cropping needed. Switching to a 500mm improved things, although you will need to practice a bit with a lens like this before taking on an airshow. In the end it depends on the quality of the photos you are after.

+1
From what I'm read the Canon 100-400mm is probably the most popular airshow telephoto lens due to it's good IQ, IS, rapid pump action zoom and useful range.
On a 1.6x crop body the 100-400mm is equivalent in 35mm terms to 160-640mm.

ODP in Pretoria rent equipment at reasonable rates although I'm know there are places in JHb that rent photographic equipment.
Canon 400D R 180.00 per day
Canon 100-400mm lens R 336.00 per day
So it would cost R516 to rent about R20 000 worth of equipment for a day which I think is quite reasonable.
