Dudes;

Ever heard of the cheque-book racer? The guy who has the money to spend on the car to make it faster? The guy who beats everyone, not because of driver skill, but because of the money and resources he has to his disposal as he can throw 100k at an already expensive car just to beat another faster guy?

Hot hatches comes to mind, we in South Africa have the fastest OPC in the world, it ran a 12.30 1/4mile recently...that's quick!

Now, is the driver any good, he can only be as good as the car allows him to be, he can take the car to its limits, but money can take the car passed its limits, more power etc...

What's your opinion on the cheque-book racer, how does it feel to know that if you're into racing or circuit or speed or drifting that there's always someone who's better than you, and sometimes not because of skill?

That's why F1 (and other racing) is not just about the driver. Even though most of the praise (or blame) gets stacked on the driver, it's only possible to win if all the members of the team is performing well and they've got the money to get the parts and tools they want.

So the boy racers team members are who? The GF, or the bro psyching him up???

Any person who had made a single modification to their car is a cheque book racer.

Unless you racing stock factory cars against each other, one driver will always be disadvantaged, and one will have an advantage.

I disagree, what if you mod for your own personal satisfaction? Still a cheque book racer?

To the OP, i see it more the other way around, money can buy you all the groceries you want so your car is "fast". It will take a bloody good driver to put that power to the tar and run those times.

The team has the money. They pay all the team members money to do their jobs, which is basically making the car faster. More money generally mean better team members, better tools, better everything...

The team with the most money is very likely to have the best car.

Lets be clear first of all - straight line racing is drag racing the fastest car should win, Track racing is not the same - the better driver should be faster even if his car is not as fast at the other persons.

& i am not talking F1 style drivers but your normal everyday type yes YOU & ME!!! we will not be as fast as pro driver who's car is alittle slower then ours!

That's a fact...know a guy in Trofeo racing who's got GTA 3.7, but no skill, standard 2.0 8v Nord engined Alfa's destroy him around every track...coz he's scrared to push the car to its limits, whereas the seasoned race driver knows his car and knows its limits, and also knows the track..

We did a BMW Advanced driving course a few yearsa go and they put 3 to a car (plus instructor). We drove 330i's while the guys that paid High Permormance got the M3's.

95% of us there were average and there for fun, but the one guy partnered with us was a Polo Cup racer and ended up in 'my' 330i. He was running with the average guys in the M3's around the corners - dropped back on the straights - and caught him on the next corner.

Wish i could race around a track for fun on a sat or sunday :/ even if its in a corsa lite. How does one go about doing that?

Dude, skill can only get you so far in a 147 - If you want to race, you need bucks. Would you call Louis Lima a cheque book racer?

no...Loise Lima actually took a 500kw+ bakie to the end of a 1/4mile in under 8 secs...that's serious skill!

Drag racing is hardly about skill

The car has the power and all the driver does is hold the wheel straight and change gears.
