Hey all, still awaiting my account on 4x4 to be accepted. So trying here instead.

I had my 2012 chev util 1.4 sport blow some seals, and it fried the computer box. Now I have learnt that one cannot just replace the box, but at time replace the cluster and key alongside it.

We have tried a new key coded. Didn't work. Sent out the box to replace the chip - fried. Bought a new box, no communication (I Believe that this is from the mechanics error on the year).

What I am trying to find is a box with this spec, according to the photo attached. If there is nothing available, will a second hand box, cluster and key work? Trying to find these things is freaking difficult.

Can anyone that may have some suggestions in this regard assist?

The instrument cluster and the ECU on these vehicles are CAN BUS based.
A diagnostic tool is required to marry the cluster to this ECU.

Also these ECUs rarely fail. No communication means the diag tool couldn't even establish comms to get PIDs from it.

Also what do you mean by "blow some seals"

They attempted to marry it, but it didn't worl.
So the box basically burnt out due to oil spewing on it, and burning out the chip.
Seals, Crankshaft, the one on the top (Forget the name with the 1.4 on it), and the one below it; the amount of oil on the engine was incredible. And it was all due to pressure, from sludge (I change oil, filter etc, every 10K km's and it has 240K on the clock), may just be the area.
This is a bit out of my league, but could there be something I am missing?

So let's get real here- you blew the motor. Probably a rod went through the block hence all the oil. Because you drove like most people who own these drive- like a d00s
Oil won't damage "the chip" as you put it. The ECU in these cars is a sealed unit.
I am willing to bet good money I know what is going on here. Your wiring got damaged when they did what they needed to do to the motor, and because of it the CAN bus is short hence all the comms is down. Tell your mechanic to check if he damaged the wiring looms and to check that he reconnected everything properly.

The fault is still in the vehicle, swapping the ECU for another proves it.

So, no. The motor has been stripped and checked, as well as tested with a rewire with a temp carb. It works fine.
Actually dude, calling me a d00s is unbecoming. So fly a kite. I don't even drive past 3500 rpm, or more than 110km.

These vehicles do not have a carburettor so don't try and take me for a p03s please.
If you really want my help (and I had one of these vehicles until 2022 when I sold it for cash) you can PM me and agree on payment terms- until then, good luck on these (and other) forums.

And FYI I have the distinction of being able to fix faults GM themselves can't fix apparently. No fancy tools needed.

You're an absolute idiot dude. I didn't say it did. Notice the temp in the sentence. "
