Hey guys

I've been looking at various software that I can use to protect my daughter from online dangers. I'm fairly liberal with many things and allow her to explore, but I know there are people waiting for opportunities to take advantage of kids.
She has access to a Windows10 computer and then have her own Win10 tablet and Android phone.

So far I'm between these two options:
https://www.eset.com/za/home/multi-device-security/
https://www.kaspersky.co.za/safe-kids

Are these my best choices to cover those devices or is there anything else I can look at that is perhaps a little more affordable?

Either Eset or Kaspersky is good in my opinion.

Although depending on what she does on the internet i'd be less concerned about viruses and more about the creeps on the internet.

Read up on the "omegle game" as an example of what can happen if teens or even pre teens are left to their own devices.

Regarding Windows 10, you can setup a "family group" from a Microsoft Account perspective which can show web sites, screen time, etc. (Excluding incognito/private mode).

You can also do the same with Google accounts. This won't stop however what is going on inside apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.

This only kind of helps after the fact, but it is something which is free to set up.

I used Netnanny for my kids. You can choose what they can and can't do. You can even censor pages and use categories to prevent pages from coming up eg drugs, alcohol, bullying, etc
You can block social media sites and whitelist those you find acceptable. You can also control hours that the pc and internet can be operated.
My kids hated me for it

Replaced my one router this weekend with an Asus which has built in family protection. You can filter by site, keyword or a list managed by Trend. Filters can be device specific, time based or network specific.

Eset parental control.

Blocks pages,
Can gps track kids
You as a parent can block whatever app you feel like blocking even if age appropriate either cos you don't agree or as punishment.
Can set gaming time.
Can set sleep/wake times. Outside those hours the phone is a brick.
Block times to example make them study.
If you say they may install an app you can see will offer benefit, outside the approved age then as a parent you can approve it.

I am using Google WiFi Router and have enabled the Family filtering for the kids. Enabled OpenDNS for safe browsing. On their PC's running Microsoft Family there, on Android devices locked down settings ... but ... YouTube that is the issue! No way to allow safe video watching for a teenager (YouTube kids not an option)....any suggestions on that front?

Don't worry, soon when you are old and weary they are gonna do the same with you.

Youtube has a safety mode you can lock and change sttings on.

I'm also going to try these apps. we have an Android tablet that my 2 daughters share. Aged 10 and 5. they use the talking Angela app. they were talking to the "cat" in the app and it would respond to them. then suddenly it asked them... "how many computers do you have in the house?" I wasn't there at the time but my wife heard it and told me about it. so obviously that made us worry. we sat with the thing and talked to it. it says a whole lot of weird things in between the usual things you'd expect it to tell a child. we asked it why it wanted to know about the computers in our house and its response was "you have 3 right?" which was correct at the time. we asked it some more things and one of the weird things it also said was "if me and you were in survivor, you'd be the first person I would vote out" so that things clearly not safe for kids to use. I want to set up some more protection for the kids. I was only using OpenDNS but that's not enough.

My kids got past it too. And I don't believe in limiting teens - I would rather supervise. So I relaxed the rules. Besides - what they can't do on their own phones, they can do on their friends'. I would rather be around to answer questions

Did you end up answering the question or did they hide? :p
