Vienna - A chimpanzee cannot be declared a person, Austria's Supreme Court has ruled, activists said on Tuesday.

An animal rights group had sought to have the chimp, Matthew Hiasl Pan, declared a person in hopes of gaining guardianship of the animal.

The shelter where Matthew has lived for 25 years is going bankrupt, threatening to leave him homeless. Donors have offered to help support him, but under Austrian law, only a person can receive personal gifts.

The Vienna-based Association Against Animal Factories sought to have him declared a person and petitioned to be appointed Matthew's trustee.

My twisted mind immediately thought that the real motive, is to be able to marry the chimp. Once declared a person, this should not be a problem :p

So it's official: Talcum, Eskimo & Government are run by monkeys?

Now that is the worst insult that anybody can make to a monkey!!!!! They are very intelligence - some species have developed the ability to use tools for certain activities. They can also be trained to do sophisticated jobs very accurately and reliably and they literally can be paid peanuts without going on strike. Show me that in the above organisations!!!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If you ask me, all the great apes should be considered "people" in the eyes of the law.

Err yeah, I'm sure marrying the monkey was the first thing all of us thought of. :0
