China rules out Windows 8 for government computers

China's government says it will avoid buying computer equipment that runs on Windows 8 in a setback for Microsoft's efforts to promote the operating system.

Tuesday's announcement said desktop, laptop and tablet personal computers bought for government use must use a different operating system. The brief statement gave no explanation.

Microsoft wants customers to switch to Windows 8 after support for its 13-year-old Windows XP operating system ended in April. Some customers have avoided that, citing expense and inconvenience.

The government is the biggest buyer of computer software in China, so its purchasing decisions can have a significant impact on sales.

This is actually giving me a sinister smile, seeing that China won't allow MS to dump their operating system on them :whistle:
 
China regularly hacks windows desktops so Im sure theyve learnt it would be a bad idea for security.
 
Not only that, I often get screenshots from there, they're still running XP widely
 
I would have thought they had their own, fake version of Windows that's bigger than the actual Windows, like they do with Facebook and Sina Weeaboo or whatever it's called. Or their fake Whatsapp. Or their whole fake internet basically.

Its heading that way... They are masters of the fake websites already.
It will probably be an XP based variant, called WinChow ZP or something.
 
I found using Windows 8 at home a pleasure. Corporate environment testing was another story. UAC requirement for metro (Not sure if this is still an issue), various group policy issues and other incompatibilities if I recall correctly. I'd actually be curious to hear of any large corporate rolling out Windows 8?

We have it on all the new laptops... its been a DISASTER!!!!
 
I won't use win8 as well.

it is bad for my desktop.
it is even worse for my nokia phone.
they force me to use a 64 bit computer to develop win phone 8 apps.

......... it is such a disater
 
Their Kylin OS makes some sense. They have 10 million people in the civil service and a whole lot more in branches like the military. All those Windows licenses would mean a significant outflow of capital from the country.
