China - Taiwan Developments

In other words - US weapons supermarket is now open for Taiwan.
Taiwan has been self-governing for over 70 years, and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to peaceful coexistence with mainland China. Despite the lack of international recognition, Taiwan has become a thriving democracy and a major economic power. The US has a long-standing relationship with Taiwan, which dates back to the post-World War II era, when the US provided military and economic support to the ROC government. This partnership has endured over time, with the US maintaining strong economic and military ties with Taiwan, despite pressure from the PRC.

Given Taiwan's long-standing commitment to democratic values and its importance as a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region, the US has a strong interest in supporting its continued self-governance. The US has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to helping Taiwan maintain its independence and promote regional stability. Ultimately, a strong, democratic, and prosperous Taiwan benefits both the US and the region as a whole.

Texas is whatever USA is, which happens to be a democracy
Western Cape is whatever South Africa is, which happens to be a democracy

can either of them change their system of rule? no, they cannot, it is not up to them

in exactly the same fashion: Taiwan is whatever China is
that's not a democracy, Taiwan gets to vote on provincial matters as allowed by China, which is their actual country
And yet Taiwan has a democratic government and china has a communist one.

I remember when that Chinese sub popped up to say hello in the middle of a US carrier group battle exercise.

You are missing something important here. Taiwan is not Hong Kong.

Taiwan and Mainland China are two parts of a civil war that never really ended, that is the only way they are the same country.

not missing, it just doesn't make any material difference, here's a list of organisations that officially (whatever else they may believe privately) state Taiwan is part of China and most definitely not independent:
- the UN
- the EU
- USA
- China
- Taiwan itself even

the status quo might have been born from civil war, but it doesn't change the only two options on the table:
- accept China as the winner
- goad China into making its victory clear and unambiguous using its military might

Taiwan has a pretend government, whatever format they choose for their voting doesn't make it any more real than the Easter bunny that hid all those chocolates this past weekend
Fascinating...So this is what governments generally do for their citizens.

Make Laws and enforce them
Make Policies and apply them
Protect their citizens with a defense force
Provide social assistance in most cases.
Create official documentation for their citizens (passports etc)
All of the above is paid for by the taxpayer.

The Tawainese government does all of the above for the people of Taiwan, it seems to tick every box that makes for a legitimate government....

Why is the status quo not an option?

Taiwan is part of China

Not according to Taiwan. Is Ukraine part of Russia?

sweet zombie jesus, does USA have interests in Texas?

Texas is voluntarily part of the US. It can secede at will.

does South Africa have interests in the Western Cape?

The Western Cape is a province and part of the unitary state of the Republic of South Africa. It is not a voluntary option.

when you wake up today I sincerely hope you remember to take your meds, it's the only explanation I can think of for such an irrational question o_O

I have explained the rationality above. Maybe you require meds for rationality?

Yes. Texas can secede whenever they want. They are voluntarily part of the USA. The Western Cape cannot as it is a province of the unitary Republic of South Africa.

How so? The people elect their government in Taiwan. People in China just disappear.
So? Legitimacy has to do with effective popular acceptance... not direct approval.

There exists no effective movement against the CCP they have been in control of the Mainland for almost a century, Taiwan want's to be the legitimate government of both sides but it will never be.

There are only two possible alterations to the status quo, the Mainland fractures into civil war or annexes Taiwan. Anything else is a fantasy.

Your logic is like saying that if the Tzars' family survived they could today retake the Russian Empire because they were the legitimate rulers popularly supported by half the Empire. Even today their decedents if they exist are in hiding. The imperial age is over, this includes China.

And the Democratic Socialist age is currently coming to a close, we are entering a Technocratic dark age.
