China - Taiwan Developments

@Howdy had a go at me about Wikipedia yesterday, it didn't go all that well for him as it turns out that the Wiki article I quoted turned out to be bang on the money, do you want to have a go?

The point is that your “consistency” consistently lacks objectivity, which is the typical path for forming opinions on contentious issues using sources such as MSM and Wikipedia, as they are directly linked to the narrative.

I agree that Wikipedia is often right, but I also put it to you that the narrative is often wrong.

In my pursuit for true objectivity and understanding, I needed to talk less and listen more. And especially stop ‘proving’ others wrong which is terribly ‘easy’ to do on the internet, particularly when one’s opinion is that of groupthink of the narrative, which is often wrong.

I do give you a 9/10 for relaying here what you ‘research’ on the internet!

Okay, so what do you think I am misguided about, you seem to think you have a good read on me, so let's keep on topic, what are your thoughts about China and Taiwan?

It's hard to have an honest discussion when people post blatantly false information. If only everyone actually verified what they posted there would be far more time to discuss deeper things rather than having to constantly play whack a mole over the sort of tripe that the likes of Nico regularly post.

errr, accusing perhaps?

regardless, you lied, own it
So it's not good enough that we disagree, you accuse me of being intentionally dishonest for some odd reason. No wonder you are so in love with the Russians and the Chinese.

well what do you call it when someone makes a claim (e.g. not being inconsistent) based on an objectively and obviously false statement (Taiwan <> Donbass)?

if you tell a traffic cop that recorded you speeding that you didn't speed are you not a liar?

I suppose if you truly believe the lie you may be classified as deluded instead.

Comparing two different countries and claiming they are the same is objectively false and misleading, some aspects of their situations might be similar but seriously, you must be trolling now right?

If we discuss our opinion of events in the way we see them I don't accuse you of lying if we disgree, I might think that you are misguided or mistaken but for everything you and I disagree on, I have never once that you don't believe what you are posting. I might think you are wrong but I don't think you are telling lies just for sh*ts and giggles. If I thought that I would have no further use engaging with you.

People can be mistaken without actually intending to lie, if you assume that everyone who disagrees with you is just lying then what is the point of discussing anything?

they are the same in all aspects that matter when it comes to independence and the rights of the true sovereign state to claim it as its own and deny foreign agents access to it

sure, they are not in the same location or have the same people etc, none of that matters in this context though

fair enough, I retract that specific accusation then, you are mistaken / wrong / deluded / pick any synonym you prefer, instead

Ukraine banns the Russian language and imprisons the opposition.

Since when? The lingua franca between all former Soviet states is Russian. I worked with Lithuanians, Azeris, Ukrainians, Rumanians and Poles. They all spoke to each other in Russian instead of English.

After all the posturing and Nancy's slap in the face moment, they have to be seen to be doing something.

Now it is up to the US NOT to make another move.

Not losing face is a big cultural imperative in Chinese culture. China has lost face and needs some military posturing and sabre rattling to regain some sort of dignity. I agree the US should remain neutral.

But remember that the Taiwanese are of the same culture and making them lose face without an opportunity to regain dignity could push them over the edge.

Yet you stated that his consistency is consistent within the Western narrative? I would say that is rather objective.
