Imagine a society in which you are rated by the government on your trustworthiness. Your “citizen score” follows you wherever you go. A high score allows you access to faster internet service or a fast-tracked visa to Europe. If you make political posts online without a permit, or question or contradict the government’s official narrative on current events, however, your score decreases. To calculate the score, private companies working with your government constantly trawl through vast amounts of your social media and online shopping data.

Re: the surveillance - everybody lives with it in todays world under some guise or other, be it for "crime" or "anti-terrorism".

No-one knows precisely how many cameras there are in the UK, but the estimates go as high as 4.5 million, making Britons among the world's most watched people.

From a business point of view , positive for companies and customers.

Potential customers will know who is trustworty, who is honest , who gives good service, who provides best rates, who provides best service, who offers best deals, and most importantly who actually stands by their service delivery promises.

This can be anyone from the local plumber or mechanic to the local grocery store, car hire, rental agency, as well as the small business and large business.

For companies, knowing who they can invest in, for those seeking to expand knowing who would be a potential positive for a franchise investment etc etc.

For employers, knowing who to hire, for employees knowing who to apply to for job security or potential future growth.

Is the system abusable by government, yes, but then again there are many systems with the potential to be abused by government globally anyway.

Every cellphone operator that I’ve worked with in 5+ countries has a “state security” clause allowing the government to listen in rather obscure conditions.

The French surveillance law is quite an oddity. Basically, France never had official secret services, or a SSA law, so the secret services could do pretty much everything without any restriction or oversight as long as ordered to do it (and they were doing it).

The new law at least gives a parliamentary oversight and boundaries to their tasks. It basically legalized what has always existed, it’s far from a bad thing.

To be fair it's not proper communism. China is basically just a fascist state these days. Not even the left points to China as an example of a successful communist state. There is no such thing.

Also, who is a political dissident, but of course that's hardly significant when you consider all the "good" stuff.
 
How about no?

I sometimes think the lower classes need something like this as they're ignorant and not to be trusted by themselves, but then always when people are forced to be loyal towards regime the scheite seems to hit the proverbial fan. Despite the warnings from religions about thinking too much, the world still seem to work better when individuals do actually engage their brains a bit.

Also, lets not forget that Zuma got as far as he got by controlling the ANC gravy-train loyalty program, those things promise you great rewards with maximum savings but at the end of the day they're just designed to rob you of your vote.

Democracy is another word for Authoritarian state. The world powers will try and have you believe otherwise. Places like Russia, China and the US are all two sides of the same coin.

The more freedom you think you have, the less freedom you actually have in reality. This may sound like crazy rambling but I hope you people listen all of you: Everything about this world is a lie and an illusion. Everything you see and hear is a deception designed to manipulate you and how you feel or what you think.

The only real things in this life are the rocks and the sky.

That's simplistic nonsense. Criticising the government in the US won't get you house arrest or worse. I'm not defending state surveillance of citizens, but when the US uses it to idenitify and silence dissidents is when all governments will be the same.
