Google is set to take all necessary steps to eradicate pornography from google.cn, it’s Chinese language portal, says BBC.
Google has already been warned twice regarding unacceptable content being shown in search results by China’s internet watchdog. Recently it was criticised for “disseminating pornographic and vulgar information”.
This comes as China is attempting to ensure that all new PC’s sold within the Republic are pre-loaded with content filtering software.
The Chinese government has also announced that its reaction to search results on Google China was to combat the “large volume of foreign internet pornographic information [that] has entered our borders”.
Google responded that it is taking action to rectify the problem and has met with government officials to discuss the issues surrounding it.
“We are undertaking a thorough review of our service and taking all necessary steps to fix any problems with our results,” said Google’s communications director, John Pinette, in a statement.
China’s Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre (CIIRC), which announced that authorities have blocked 1001 websites for “distributing porn and other lewd material”, may take further action against Google.
At the end of 2008 China had 1.3 billion internet users.
