If we're getting a great network out of it, we still benefit more than it costs, which isn't sad. We get to use a great new network at reasonable costs, which benefits our economy etc. and improves our quality of life. That's trade. Most our stuff is imported. You don't think we really built the Gautrain for example?

The "sad" part is that we haven't bothered to skill ourselves enough to be able to do this kind of work ourselves, but that is 100% our own fault.

Could go into "local" pockets if minimum wage wasn't so high, unions insisted people get above inflation increases, and production costs weren't so high due to industrial action. COSATU and the ANC have done it to their own citizens, and we'll continue to lose jobs to China unless they wake up to the fact that unions are the problem.

I'm sure these Chinese guys are highly skilled, but I think they are more valuable than South Africans because they are disciplined and not lazy, compared to the locals who have no sense of work ethic and couldn't give a **** as long as they get paid more than they are actually worth.
 
Yeah, but the law's the law chums. If these okes don't have permits then they shouldn't be working.
Problem is applying for permits is so badly backlogged right now that Cell C obviously had to be willing to accept the risk.

People who talking about unskilled need their head flushed in a toilet bowl :-P It's the cost of experienced SA engineers vs Chinese engineers. The ZTE contracts i saw a few months back before the roll out started were paying entry level SA engineer salaries for experience positions so naturally they gonna go with their own engineers who have rolled out their own equipment before. We not talking so much about the dudes hoisting up the equipment ;) :P

Lazy SA workers.. lmfao. these are engineers we talking about.

I don't belong to a union so I guess I cant get all my colleagues to go on strike if I lose my job.

What I am is hardworking and skilled I should be able to find another job, even if it is that Craven cretin's job.
 
Unions lost out here on filling their pockets , shame local labour to do what? the trenches???

They should bring in Malema and his garden boys to finish off the project now.
 
Labour laws preventing you firing someone for incompetence without warnings and hearings needs to be reviewed. Quicker hiring and firing processes would make people thankful for their jobs and ensure that they most skilled are hired for the position the currently hold.
