Chip to mod vehicle performance

Seen lots of guys saying how putting in a chip (im not talking about chips you eat for all those comments to come), and saying what a difference in performance and fuel consumption it makes. Anyone ever doen this? all feedback would be welcomed. I have a chev utility 1.4i model. Would love a bit of extra power.
 
I had a chip on a Corsa 1.4, 270 degree Cam, exhaust, k&N filter. On A stock naturally aspirated car you wont notice much difference in power but fuel consumption will improve provide its tuned perfectly. A chip will affect your warranty as you cut into the vehicles wiring .
 
You don't cut into the wiring harness of a vehicle when it's chipped, its called a piggyback. It plugs straight onto your existing computer and your wiring harness then plugs in on top of that, you can thus remove it when your car goes in for a service. I had two of my cars done, the one a Honda VTec and the other a 3.0 diesel doublecab and had very good improvents with both. I am going to chip a third vehicle as soon as I'm back in SA.

A chip on a turbo car will make a difference because they can control how much air enters the engine. A turbo is like a hair dryer. When they "chip" or "remap" it, they tell the hair dryer to push more air into the engine. Obviously that brings the engine closer to its tolerances and will always increase wear. (increasing kW and NM isn't going to be free, anyone who things otherwise is an idiot).

A naturally aspirated engine doesn't have a turbo or super charger pushing in more air. It pulls in air the same way we breath air. Your lungs create lower pressure by flexing your muscles and the air enters your lungs. The engine piston moves down and creates lower pressure and the air enters the engine.

No amount of chipping is going to make a naturally aspirated engine pull in more air.

And the manufacturer has already made the engine control software as good as it gets. What benefit is there to them to make it worse? In fact a naturally aspirated engine runs like crap unless tuned PERFECTLY.

If you want a faster naturally aspirated engine, I recommend you upgrade your car, upgrade the engine or install a turbo. All the other options cost a fortune and buy you very little to nothing at all.
 
You not going to get the results you want with a chip and a 1400 engine. Rather consider getting a performance branch, free-flow exhaust, a performance air-filter (like Simota or K&N) or cold air induction kit and a dyno tune. You will have more power and if you drive the car as per normal, better fuel economy.

Just don't go revving the car to hear the engine sound or drag your the gear changes. That's when the fuel economy goes up.
