  • 200 GB/month capped service
  • Need speed during the day (relative speed ... speed doesn't exist in SA)
  • Up the coast from Cape Town
  • Don't even utter the word AfriHost

You choose: who and why.

I'd also suggest VOX. I have a VOX account as my backup and wish it was big enough to be my main account.

I see 200GB on Vox as R639. Am I missing something? Would love to get 200GB for R324

R400 will get you a 2 meg business account from afrihost, nothing wrong with afrihost to be honest.

I get full line speed all the time, your exchange is probably buggered.

:wtf:

you are then one of the "very" lucky few...

Hey, if it works for you then stick with it...I used to be with AH myself...but after the crap service they gave me, and the endless list of promises and excuses...there is ABSOLUTELY no way I can recommend them to anyone

AFRIHOST SUCKS...and THEY KNOW IT!!

For MONTHS now they have been literally (every day) promising the world to their customers, but all that happens is, "my side looks fine, could you post a tracert?"

I mean ffs seriously...they are not THAT big that they can POC a network indefinitely. I've been working for large corporations for the last 20 years, and when there's a "project", there's a budget and most definitely a deadline.

We have asked AH repeatedly, when is your network going live? When will all this nonsense testing end? They never have an answer...just always..."soon" empty promises and honestly the guys (who's struggling) who's still with AH? eish bru are you seriously THAT short on cash that you cannot afford a better ISP?

/rant over

...and carry on

I get what you are saying, but I've honestly never had any major problems with AH as an ISP. It always runs at line speed.

But someone in Durban with the exact same setup as me will suffer, ADSL is very unpredictable.

Well I joined AH last December (business uncapped), and I was super happy with the performance. Full line speed and really good pings any time of the day. Then...suddenly roughly 4 months ago...it all just went ape****...I started to get really bad latency and overall speed. For me this loss in performance happened almost overnight, and for a couple of weeks I was also just hanging in there, listening to the excuses and the promises...but I got fed up with coming home after a long day at work, and then my internet doesn't work. Back then already, we all were promised that everything will be fixed "soon". The reps even stated a couple of times that they are "confident" that the lack of performance should be over very soon (look it up if you want...it's somewhere couple of hundred pages ago :) ) "Soon" in my book means a couple of days to maybe a couple of weeks at most...not months...

I really do hope for the sake of the guys still hanging in there, that the old AH performance (that I also enjoyed for a while) comes back. It's a pity that this has been going on for months. It really shouldn't be that difficult for an ISP as big as AH to figure out the best way of running their network. The smaller guys seem to be doing quite well, and it most probably didn't take them nearly as long as AH to get their protocols etc in place.
