choosing nokia N Series

The N Series are far from being rubbish.

You can't blame Nokia because a third party in SA is not up to making a reliable and timely repair to your handset! Nokia operate their own service centres in the UK and a warranty repair is usually done by an over the counter swap-out for anything but the most trivial of faults.

Nokia have made a few humdingers: 3210, 2650 & 7200 are worthy of a "We'll never do that again award" but by and large their build quality wins hands down, just compare a Nokia 1110 with any other phone at that price!

As for failure (i.e. not because someones smashed their LCD) Samsung lead the way in warranty returns, followed by Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Nokia returns are actually quite rare!

Just as a side issue there is no such thing as Vodafone software! The MCU/PPM files are the same for all version all that would vary is the Content Pack which would be branded. As you'd find with XP the branded version is still based on normal XP.

Hehehehehe

Ok ill give you unofficial stats.

Samsung have the least problems of all!!! The D500 had a few with their first slide phone but they way less than Nokio.

SE have the 2nd spot, mainly software issues, P990 killed them, and then the joystick issues from dirty folk.

Motos have the whole breakage thing esp the Razr, they to have SW issues and they easily damaged by SAs humidity.

Nokio on the other hand.................................................
They have tons I think Voda has about 10 - 15 only Nokio technicians, lol ask them about N-series phones, they also have the numbers because they have alot of fans so they get alot back to.

But sales to repair ratio - The more Nokios they sell the more that comes back.

And ofcourse you mentioned build quality.... where you living, Nokio use they cheapest scrap metal money can buy!!!

I take you must be in the paper cup industry coz your summaries on phones are a joke.

I hate to tell you this old chap. I operate a quality independent cellular business!

If you say the build quality of say a Nokia 1110 is lower than that of any other brand phone at the same price, i.e. Motorola (Acer) C118 for example I can only assume you have made some very uninformed assumptions, you need to look inside not at pictures in a magazine!

Sony Ericsson's have the least problems of all? May be on the planet Zeon but they are quite unreliable in the atmosphere here on planet Earth! Then there is the W600 that have four screws that drop out, quite good as you then get two phones but neither works of course! You can become expert in using the joystick that goes only to the right or down (this could be handy if you need to fly a crippled Airbus A320) or even the other way around sometimes!

Samdung D500 was FAR from their first slide phone! The E800 & E810 were around way before the D500! The D500 had a few problems is a bit like saying someone is just a little bit dead! The same goes for the D600 with a flex cable joining parts A to B that breaks if a silkworm so much as farts next to it! If you know anyone in the cellular trade get them to show you how a D500 connects the front part of the handset to the back and then ask them to see the same connection design on a Nokia 6111. I rest my case!

Of course the last two lines of your reply reflect your ability to follow the thread quite well. Can you explain where Nokia source their "scrap metal" or indicate how you became aware that Nokia used such material to build their handsets? I can only assume that you must therefore that you are in the bull excrement business may be?

N73 by far the best all rounder of all the phones out there.:D :D Have already took more that 300 photos with mine and they are all excellent. I have also looked at the N80, but I think the N73 is a BETTER buy in all aspects.

The only think that the N73 doesn't have is WiFi, but I don't need it ass I got a PDA for that.

The N80 is built as a cigarette box, so if you are comfortable with that then its fine. Heard that the N80's firmware is buggy!!. N73 firmware is pretty stable Not have a reboot in the past four months that I owned the phone.:)

I also must admit that it doesn't have the crappy Vodaphone live on it!! It has the standard untampered firmware and I'm running MTN on it.;)

I have to N80 no reboots or freeze but my brother's N80 was twice in for firmware updates.I am happy with the N80,but can't wait for the N95.Release in mid March.

I have got a Nokia N91 and just loves it. Had a Sony Ericsson P910 before and N91 much better.

Ahh the joys of having a good grasp of the English language.......
Can't wait for the rebuttal

My N73 (MTN) is a pretty sweet phone. Pics are absolutely awesome! :p
Enjoying this phone quite a lot. It is my first symbian phone and I must say I am not disappointed.
Menus are sweet, general operation is  too
Getting a pretty impressive battery life from it as well, about 4-5 days, which is longer than the 3 days max I got from my previous 6230.

And yes, you can set the connection on Dual, UMTS or GSM (for guys that's arguing this one).
