Choosing the right Business adsl

Hey all, I need some guidance.

At work we had Telkom adsl 2mb/sec, and it was perfect for our needs. Recently our Visa Card Machine service provider installed a new connection method on their machines, so we could use adsl.

It works really fast when it is working, but too many connection issues made me change back to the modems again.

Now What I did when they changed the machines to adsl, is I changed our cap to mweb, the 2 mb/sec business account. They said the business one is better than the normal one, so thats why I chose that one. I actually changed to mweb, because I thought all will be more stable through them, and I got uncapped too.

So after about a month, it seems this will not work for me. Now my questions:

- Download speed is not what I need if I'm correct, but connection speed? Because the data which gets downloaded is not much, but the speed everything is happening, hope I explain myself good enough?

- Which service provider would you suggest, or is mweb good enough? I use them at home, without any problems.


My main requirement is a quality connection, which does not drop all the time, and on which the connection is quick.

Suggestions?
 
Thanks for the replies so far, but what makes those better than I currently have, what must I look for?
 
In all honesty. Afrihost Business accounts or capped accounts are the best value for money. No shaping, no star rating and no throttling.
Mweb is overpriced
WebAfrica has star rating
Internet Solutions has star rating
CyberSmart is just rubbish in general
OpenWeb stay far away
VOX poor support
Telkom is like a merry go round very unstable

Capped WAvaccounts are shaped. Badly, during office hours.
 
Never been throttled with my Afrihost 4mbps Business. Problem with it is that the latency isn't great -- about 40ms vs WebAfrica's 20ms and Telkom's 15ms (to local) -- which might serve as a problem for business if doing constant transactions. Web browsing is a breeze. It's also relatively cheap.
Problem with it: it's on the MTN network, which Afrihost seems incapable of managing, themselves.

Truthfully, business accounts are more catered towards consumers if you think about it -- they are designed for streaming and downloading content, not for web browsing.
I'd say go for a capped account on Telkom; it's the fastest connection with lowest latency, and if there are any issues with the line, Telkom actually bothers to help you, because you are giving them money.

BS. I use a WA Business Capped Account for my home internet. I download approx. 200 Gb movies/series per month and have never been shaped.

Discussion originated based on OP's requirement by the way. He will never be shaped on an account like this.

Let's recap:

I made the first response to OP stating that he should get a WA Business Capped account for his requirements.

whatwhat responded that OP should get Afrihost Business, since WA is star rated: thus implying that WA Business Capped is throttled/shaped...which it is not.

If OP gets a WA Business Capped Account for his VISA requirements, he will not have speed issues. Afrihost will also give the same result, of course.

My apologies thought the star issue was referred to normal capped and then you responded with business capped.

Anyway point is, WA Business = Good

Silly goose. All the capped traffic is shaped unless you are on Business Capped Pro.

Not my experience with the home account. Even http downloads was shaped to 100KB/s on a 20MB line during office hours. After around 5-6pm it speeds up. NNTP was shaped around the same time then slowly peaked after midnight.

I could never get Hulu+ to stream on it without buffering, it even made my AH Business account seem good during the day. Which surprised me since everyone else was saying this is the best for streaming. Only in the evenings was I able to stream. I don't have exchange issues either.

Some users experience do vary, but the capped accounts on WebAfrica need to be tested first to see if they fit your usage or not.
Just saying that they are not shaped isn't right, it really depends on what you are doing.
