Hi

I have a htc dream and I'm due for an upgrade

I am considering the htc wildfire

But from the looks of it, the specs are similar to the dream

Is it worth to get or give it a skip?

Wait a bit for the new Gingerbread(2.3)-based phones, then make your decision. It'll apparently support video-calling (meaning a secondary, front-facing camera), among other features.

Whatever you do, I'd suggest you get a phone from a company with a history of speedy updates, especially if you go for a FroYo device. Just as an example, the Xperia X10 was just recently updated to Eclair (2.1) even though FroYo (2.2) has been out for a good few months.

Forget the Wildfire and get the Htc Legend,that is worth the jump. Wildfire has a lower screen res than the Dream, and it doesnt have a graphics accelerator, Legend FTW.

If you're considering the Legend, might as well throw in the R700-odd extra and get the Desire Classic. Feature-wise it's a much better phone, and it has an established modding community, if you're interested in that.

Agreed, not to mention that the CPU in the Desire is ARMv7 compatible (which means it supports Flash 10.1, AIR etc.). If you can, maybe wait for the Desire Z or Desire HD. Even if they're out of your price range, they might decrease the price of the Desire (Classic) - they should be here within the next two weeks or so according to Lab88.

The Dream is still a damn good phone IMO. I'm still using mine and I honestly don't want anything else unless it's much higher spec'd. If you haven't yet, consider Rooting it and slapping on BiffMod - it's a Froyo ROM and it's really fast and really stable.
