Hey Oakes / Girl?!?!

I have two VOIP providers: iBurst and NexusOne.

I have a 10mb line with Telkom (syncing at 6) and i have a "Bussiness Capped" account with WebAfrica(which offers HIGH priority for VOIP). My dsl runs perfectly, and i ALWAYS get full speed out of my line.

However, my VOIP calls are unusable. At first i thought it was iBurst, and i then created an account with NexusOne. The switch made zero difference. The line does not drop, but it is as though there are pauses every 1/10th of a second: H-E-L-L-O, Y-O-U H-A-V-E R-E-A ....... yeah... it really is that bad.

I am 100% clueless when it comes to VOIP and codecs and stuffs, so i would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. My mobile bill has jumped by nearly R400 pm due to me not being able to use the VOIP service.

Are you sure your line is 100%? Have you tried a different ISP to test? Also worth making sure you have no other downloads etc. running at the same time.

Tried it with afrihost free 1gb, made no diffrence.

I downloaded an alternative softphone, and it is a bit better. There is a delay on voice though

Hi, since it is such a consistent issue it sounds like a mismatch of a codec setting, not necessarily the line. Which PBX are you using, or is it a hosted service, it could be a the payload setting. Check with the ITSP, I would test it at 20ms to ensure the best quality.

Hi Polemus, send me a PM if you still having issues. I will gladly assist you. I have some experience with troubleshooting VoIP. It's actually my day job.
