So its that time of the year again.
What's for lunch?
My ideas so far...
Turducken (never had it before but looks tasty)
Roast pork
Prawns (in a spicy, thick butter, lemon, sweet chilli sauce)
Yellowtail (on the braai)

Home made bread
Pasta salad (shells)
Green salad
Steamed vegetables
Spicy rice.

Anyone else has some ideas that I could maybe copy?

Probably going american this year with a turkey on the spit, cranberry sauce, sweet potato pie etc.

Yeah. Was also thinking about the tukey. Just never had one that wasn't completely dried out. Any ideas on keeping it juicy?

Put the turkey in a braai dish with lid, spice to liking, put in the oven on low heat and cook for 4 hours :)

Thanks.
I could maybe put it on the braai or uncovered in the oven for maybe 15 minutes to get that grilled look and taste, am I right?

Its going on a spit which tends to keep things juicy but if you regularly apply the cranberry sauce it should seal the moisture inside.
But I am not a chef.

Well, I am spending Christmas alone once again this year. Mom and brother are going away, and I can't really go and leave my dogs alone.

How is a turducken? Those things you buy from CHeckers Hyper right? Do they have bones in? Does it taste nice? I want to make a nice roast, with roast potatoes, rice, gravy, spinach and butternut for myself. I will buy spinach / butternut from woolies lol! But will make the roast and the roast potatoes myself :D

Note to self: include roast potatoes.

Yes exactly, also cover in olive oil before hand!

Same as most years probably, which means;
Mutton Curry
Butter Chicken
Turkey + Stuffing
Maybe Roast Lamb
Gammon
Prawns
Roast Potatoes + asst other veg
Roti
Rolls
Rice
Beer
Wine

Sleep

I'm not a big fan. I would rather have roast lamb or beef.

Duck is also nice if done right.

I never had it before, but seen it at the shops. Does it have bones in, or is it deboned already? I like duck, and lamb and pork :D

Pick n Pay has a special on Pekin Duck now for r49/KG. Thinking of buying one and saving it for the day.

Well, I am spending Christmas alone once again this year.
Come and join us at the pub for a three course Christmas lunch :)

Crayfish starter
Roast lamb/pork/gammon/chicken with veggies, potatoes, salads, etc
A few puddings to choose from...

Wine and whatever else to sip on and other extras thrown in!

We do the South African Braai thing.
A lot of meat, salads and then a lot of booze.
Xmas pud with Amarula cream and brandy.

1 Kg of Fillet wrapped in bacon and "painted" with some cranberry juice concoction.
Freshly baked potbread with real butter and jam.
Pumpkin pie.
Roasted veggie skewers.

that will be mains, starters and dessert but I will probably go for something fruity for dessert and something more traditional for starters, perhaps a seafood flavour.
