Chrome's lock symbol is being redesigned because it confuses people

Chrome will redesign the lock icon which appears on the left of the search bar because almost nobody knows what it is meant to convey.

Google announced the decision this week, with the company saying the misunderstanding over the icon was not harmless as nearly all phishing sites also display the lock icon.

There should never have been an icon. A secure connection is only applicable when handling personal information. You should just be informed when entering data that a site isn't secure. That way nobody would be confused.

I know what it is/was/does/did but did find the icon to be an odd choice. New symbol does make a bit more sense.
