I think its ridiculous that I have to pay R300 to see a doctor for 5mins so he can write me a script for meds I've been taking for years!

According to his secretary the medical board made it law that when renewing chronic meds you have to see the doctor. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU What if I was just there last month! Grrrrrr. And how is your run of the mill GP asking R300 when a specialist is not much more.

Any suggestions on how to waste his time to make sure I utilize the full 20mins?? :D

yep, My wife has to see her gynie twice a year (you think R300 is bad?) just to get her pills.

why can't the GP prescribe now that she is stable?

She does not have a normal GP, we go to Akasia med clinic for that type of stuff (all specialists close by, no driving around for blood/xrays/whatever).

Keep in mind your paying for your docs experience and not just his time. R300 sounds right but I do feel your pain. I need to get a chronic script from my doc and he is also going to smack me R300 for 16 minutes - 1 minute to fill in the paperwork and 15 minutes to talk about mountain biking

Wow you whining for R600 per year on chronic medication scripts ... how fail

You need to take in consideration that the medication might change. That's why you need him to verify whether you still need the same meds or even if you need it at all.

I hate this. Getting to a doctor is the issue.
I have to take a half day off, which peezz on my battery. You end up using your leave for crappy things like the doctor ( for chronic meds ) Licence renewals, address changes , bank stuff ups, (if you are a women add the hairdresser and all sorts of female things to the list :() and all sorts of blood pressure raising fury feeding nonsense. Which is just the opposite of what you were suppose to use your leave for

I know plenty of docs open on weekends.
Before 12 a a medicross is still normal rates. For all my license renewals etc, i get up extra early and am the first one there, im in and out and at work at normal time.

I think if you make the effort, you can avoid using leave for most of these things

Also some house doctors in particular will just renew your script automatically if you ask them to without a visit. Our doc does. He reserves the right to charge telephonic consultation but has never charged me. Of course with two kids he gets his pound of flesh from us via the medical aid each year.
