Hi,

I have a Chronos PCI ADSL modem with a Connexant chipset, the system(Celeron 1.7 Ghz, 256 DDR RAM,) blue screens on Win2K Server with a IRQ message despite me attempting different IRQ's and slots. This happens quite frequently when attempting to dialup, I'm running SP3.

Other issues include intermittent slow browsing and downloads, Telkom claims it is related to the modem but I doubt this since they did mention to me they have an international bandwidth shortage.

Anyone have experience with this modem or experience similar issues ? Telkom has never heard of this modem, they recommend we get their preferred modems.

Thanks,
Fazlu

BSOD with an IRQ message usually means you have a poorly written driver. I visited the Chronos website and didn't see any drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, only Windows 98.

What drivers are you using for the modem?

May I suggest using an old 486/Pentium 1 machine with the modem in and an alternative Network Card. The Smoothwall distro (www.smoothwall.org) supports the Chronos kit specified.

Reasons for this opinion:

More secure ( A lot more )
Caches sites visited (how much stipulated by size of HDD)
Control security and usage, when acting upon info supplied by web interface.
Allows for the setup of a De-Militarized Zone
Intrusion detection
Easier to migrate to a larger network

And I could go on forever.

Not only advocating Smoothwall, try IP COP, FreeSCO,Fli4linux or any other distro. It is a question of getting out of something that you want. I found that with some microsoft houses, the web interface that comes with Smoothwall is not such a steep learning curve and you can even get the interface in Afrikaans.

I have the identical modem which comes with Conexant AccessRunner software. It seems to work fine but I have great difficulty trying to get it to connect to the ADSL network. Retries for up to 30 minutes before it connects. Once it connects it stays connected and works fine. Wish I could find a solution for the long connection problem. Not a bad modem for 300 bucks.

Anybody else having this connection problem?

same modem

mine keeps on dropping the line every now and then.

ah well I wanted a cheap modem and I gues I got it (plan to get a router when I move and gonna leave this modem here)

mine hasnt given me any probs so far, and it was R180 :D
