Cisco 877-W Router setup with Telkom Internet

Again, should be working, 'ppp ipcp dns request' should seed your router with Telkom's DNS servers?

BTW are you pinging from the router CLI or an attached PC?

Then I can only think its a bit of a dodgy image ... try upgrading to a later one.

From the router CLI... I do have 'ppp ipcp dns request'
so this doesnt make sense as it should lookup www.google.com from telkom DNS servers.

But I get:

Cisco-01#ping www.google.com
Translating "www.google.com"
% Unrecognized host or address, or protocol not running.


Yeah, Will definitely take a look at upgrading the IOS.

Update: the ping issue was due to not having "ip domain lookup" enabled.
All works well now except I cant seem to get vrrp running on the router!!!

Vrrp show as enabled and I can ping my vrrp ip(192.168.1.50) from the router but not from any other PC on my network!

Cant think of anything other than my 877 doesnt have advanced Ip features installed.
And this is probably the reason why multiple vlan cant be configured?
On bootup the 877 loads:

Booting flash:/c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T1.bin
Self decompressing the image : ########################################################################### [OK]

Got a preconfigured Cisco 877 from IS.

Worked quite well, and was rock solid.

Until we got hit by a power cut.

Now the LAN light (on the router) do light up when switching the router on, but it stays lit for about 10 or so seconds, then goes out.

I've tried it on a 10-base, 100-base and Gig switch, all have the same issue, namely that the router's network interface deactivates itself.

As IS preconfigured the router (uncapped adsl) I don't have access to the username/password details.

Any idea on whether the LAN interface is faulty, or the router borked on its config? It do initiate a PPPoE connection, but that's about it.

Busy with our ISP to see whether the router is still under warranty, or need a replacement. Will update once that happen.

This is one of the most solid and reliable ADSL routers I've ever seen so far. I'm impressed.

While we're on this topic, can this router be confgured to operate in bridged mode, where a firewall (such as smoothwall etc) will manage the PPPoE connection?

Connect to the router via terminal and as it boots up do a 'break' and change the config registers from 0x2102 to 0x2142 in order to gain access and change the username/password.

The router could be faulty or the flash memory could have been corrupted/lost.
