Has anyone bought Cisco equipment through eBay.I see you can get Layer3 switches for about R2000
but I am wandering what customs will do.

They will probably charge you for custom duties. Something like 10% of what you paid.

Just be careful though - you may end up with some real rubbish. We received one unit that had been dropped. Would not even turn on.

You might end up with a couple of dead ports, etc. That being said, it is possible to find some gems on eBay, especially guys who used them for their own labs for studying purpose, etc. As with everything, make sure you buy from reputable seller, and the adage of "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" rings very true when it comes to eBay.

Personally I would rather look at doing a deal (or a group-buy even if it's for studying purpose) with a local reseller like TFI who sell refurbished Cisco kit, albeit it probably more expensive than the eBay counterparts, but I'm willing to spend the extra for peace of mind.
