Hi,

We have a Cisco ADSL router at work on an uncapped IS business DSL service. We will be relocating offices and moving to fibre in the middle of the month and the exisiting contract will only be cancelled after the move. It seems like such a waste unless I can plug it in on my home ADSL line and help using all that uncapped data. Would that work? Obviously I won't get the same speed since my line is 384k but it's uncapped.

Thanks

I would definitely recommend you first get permission to do so, but yes it should work (as long as the uncapped account isn't locked to the line). You also may need to tweak some of the router settings.

How would I know if it is locked to the line, other than putting it on another one to test? The office connection will be gone since the servers and firewall all move to the new office.

If there is a client portal for the account, then there is the possibility that it will show if it is locked there. The other way to check would be to see if the account can authenticate from home while the office connection is offline.

WHAT model Cisco router is it ????

WHO is paying for the IS business connection account ??? ( YOU personally -- or -- the business -- is it monthly , or has one lump sum payment been made ?? )

Seeing as the contract is not yet over I assume that the router still belongs to IS ?
In which case they lock the router -- only THEIR techs are allowed to configure it.

I also assume that the IS contract has certain stipulations -- perhaps one being that the router / account can only be used under certain stipulated conditions ?

IF YOU owned the router then there are things that you could do

IF NOT -- then I suggest having a chat to IS

Not sure about the model.
Monthly paid by business.
Router most likely belongs to IS and they have configured it. There's not user/pass setup. If you disconnect off the firewall and plug a laptop in, it works.

It was more a curiosity question (and obviously it would have been nice to have the uncapped connection) but it would be more hassle to set up than it is worth.

You can plug it into any DSL connection and it will carry on working, its not tied into your line.

and
Hope that the Ethernet Interface has been set up for DHCP
[ Strange that there is no Users / Passwords setup -- I wonder what happens if you type "en" ???]
