hi guys

wondering if you could advise me on something with my switches

First of all I forgot the passwords on the switches and I have tried to do the Flash INIT and its still asking for the username and password How do I get that fixed

then is it possible to have 1 bank of ports not working ? like I have 1-12 not working the rest when I plug in it works

Once you've managed to get in - check running config that there isn't a port group shutdown

yes, the switch usually has port to asic mappings.
I am too lazy to look up the mappings on a 2960, but it is possible that they bank 12 ports per asic as it is an entry level switch.
Which means if the asic fails, you will lose those 12 ports

/EDIT/ type sh platform pm platform-bloc look for the asic column, this will tell you which asic is used for which port.
on the 48 port it breaks it up into 2 asics, not sure on the 24 port

Yup could also be this - but considering he can't access the CLI yet, I'm assuming a previous config
