Citroen C1, worth anything?

Hi guys,

I been long enough on MyBB to know there is a embargo on any French made cars in this site. Everybody agrees they are endless money pits.

So my question is this, the Aygo being a Toyota is supposedly good? so therefore those aygos wearing a French hat should be as good then? (C1,107) should be better than other French made cars? (207,208,307)

I obviously mean mechanically, obviously a cosmetic part like a bumper for a C1 will have to arrive from France on the wings of a Airbus. While massaged by angels, and with a price tag to go with it.

I mean things like the infamous ECU, gearbox,chassis, and the actual engine itself, all the mechanical bits that MUST function always, are they as good on a C1, then the badge would suggest otherwise.

Or is anything even remotely French, even if it's built by the Japanese a big no?

Bollocks. I drove 2 Renaults for 15 years and never had any problems with spares or vehicles giving problems. Take it for the annual/mileage services and you're all good.

The C1 , 107 , Aygo are triplets . It says Toyota on the engines - the 1.0 l Yaris is related as well. Good buy all around.

If you do some research you'll find French cars have come a very long way in terms of build quality and parts availability in the last 10 years or so, there is a stigma about them yes, but this all relates back to many years ago when the French manufacturers pulled out of the country due to apartheid, so the stigma surrounding the parts has stuck around, although it is a complete fallacy in today's market.

Being that the C1 is built under the PSA parts will be no issue and insurance shouldn't be an issue either.

Couple of things to note with these cars.
1) They are all made in the Czech Republic, the French don't have anything to do with their manufacturing.

As for your listing, how many kilometers has it done? As a comparison, I bought a 2011 Aygo Fresh with 55k km on the clock for about R88k in 2016.

This deal seems a little off IMO.

So, a quick look on Autotrader and cars.co.za websites show that this car (this year model) sells for around double the gumtree listing price. It's a shitty deal. walk away.

Well then they obviously weren't bad back in the 70's, now days owning a French car is a veritable death sentence, if a blown engine doesn't get to you then the style police will.

I concur. I think the best car for you is a Gen 1 Mazda 2. Aim for the 1.5 mid-spec. 1.3 can still work as well but you are on the reef.
