So i went for a test drive in a 2006 Citroen C4 VTS.
The car has done 50 000kms and is selling for R95 000.

Is this a good deal? .
I would probably only keep the car for 2 years. Just worried about service costs and the possibility of something going wrong.

I really like Citroens, but I don't trust Citroen's dealer service in this country. Look at hellopeter and you'll see how many people are left without a usable car while waiting for parts or while the dealers take their time to diagnose problems. If you want to pay almost R100k for a car that may end up spending more time at the workshop than on the road then go ahead.

Wouldn't touch a Citreon, wife had one and friend had one, both had tears of joy when they got rid of it. My friends car even abducted him and nearly killed him (true story).

I have a 2008 C4 VTS with 85 000kms on the clock and the car is still going like a dream.

From what I have read, Peugeot/Citroen France has taken over the dealer network in SA in March 2010 in order to improve the reputation of the brand in SA.

My service/warranty plan ends at 100 000km and so far my car has not cost a cent in maintenance except for tires and a new transponder key that I am looking to replace after it fell in water over the weekend. You can add a maintenance/service plan on the purchase price which should give you a bit more peace of mind.

Looking at the spec of the standard C4, you get a lot of standard features that would normally set you back quite a bit on other models.

Bought my car in Dec 2008 new for R135 000.00 and it came with auto lights, auto wipers, speed limiter, cruize control, a/c, MP3, auto dimming rear view mirror. With the extended service and maintenance plan the total came to just over R150k.

Currently looking at the new C4 with the automatic gearbox for my my wife.

My previous car was a 2002 1300 tazz so obviously a big change.

Agreed

I am a petrolhead so I am called often to fix cars for people... of all the cars I've ever worked on, French cars are the worst.. they are shoddy build quality, crappy design, and designed to last a year only. I work on all cars, but these Citroens are crap, don't get me even started on Renault, I fear I will unleash a rant on this forum which is uncalled for.

Ditto, had a 2006 c4 got rid of it after a year and even took a loss doing so, it is an unreliable car with crap parts and a warranty to match. Service is non-existent.
Back then the C4 1.6 was R155,000 new. 12 months later and Citroen themselves offered a trade in price of R90,000..haha

STAY AWAY!
