Hi,
im looking into trading my 2004 Merc C180K for a 2010 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi automatic,
Anyone have any experience regarding these cars?, when people ask me i always tell them Citroen is expensive to maintain, and not that reliable. But im hopeful the C5 will be different
 
Monza jokes aside. I'm on my third Citroën. No major issues thus far besides the DSG box that might need to be replaced on my C4 and the Turbo that was replaced at about 60k km. Should be covered by maintenance plan which expires at 100k km. Currently on 95k km. Also services are scheduled at 20k km/12 months. I haven't had to pay for services but have an independent mechanic that will be doing services after service plan runs out.

Current cars are C4 THP EGS6 exclusive and DS5 Auto HDI Sport. Previous one was a C4 VTR coupé.

Only issue I had was that parts come from France and takes 1 to 2 weeks for delivery. Had to replace ignition, door locks, boot lock and fuel cap lock after my spare keys was stolen for both cars in a housebreaking. Cost was about R8k each but was covered by insurance.

Previous car was traded in for the DS5. Trade in value for 2008 C4 coupé was R65k with 100k km on the clock. Trade in was done in July 2013.

The DS5 has a six speed auto box getting about 750km on 60l tank with mostly highway driving.

do you mind sharing your experience. Was the problem related to the car, parts availability or service from the dealership.

I have received excellent service from Citroën Tygervalley. Only issue I have is the closure of Citroën Somerset West and only having two Citroën dealerships in CT. Another disappointment is that we do not get all the Citroën models here.

2003 C3 HDi. Paid 50k. Drove it out of the dealership in a giant cloud of smoke. Wasn't a Citroën dealer. Drove it for about 2 days till it couldn't start anymore. After the dealership had replaced and fixed many parts including the turbo, I sold it for 20k in the same year. Loved the car, it wouldn't love me back though. Not sure if the quality of their cars would've changed much over 7 years. An old friend also had many problems with his C2, no idea what happened there but I have seen a pattern with French cars. You may strike it lucky though, I'm sure there are many people happy with Citroën and the likes.

I watched an episode of Top Gear earlier tonight where they had done a survey and Citroën, Peugeot and Renault were rated the most unreliable cars with the worst customer service.

You're on your third Citroën in how many years?
i.e. If the average Citroën is only lasting 100,000 km or three years then I'd stay far away.
I rarely see any old Citroën's on the road which is a fairly good indicator that they either do not last or they are unpopular for a reason.

First one was bought new in Dec 2008 for myself. My wife needed a car so I got her the second C4 in 2010 which was a demo with about 15k on the clock. I was interested in the DS5 Last year so traded my first C4 in for a new DS5. So at the current rate, they are lasting 5 years. No mechanical issues when the first one was traded in.

A bit concerned about keeping the second C4 beyond the maintenance plan due to possible expensive repairs should the turbo or DSG box fail.

Did you not test drive the C3 before you drove it off the showroom floor?

My mistake. Meant EGS6. When i normally mention EGS6 people have no idea what it is so was just easier to say DSG as its a known term with the exception that the one is dual clutch and the other single.
