City Power Problem

Been having endless power outs from city power, was weekly, then every few days, now becoming a daily issue. At least once a week have a 16-24 hour down time. The rest are anything from 15min to 10 or so hours. All that bs aside, had serious light dimming and brightening of lights and stuff burning out on tuesday evening. Nothing tripped though, and tested it, it works fine, so not sure why that happened, but it is worrying. I managed to cut all power quickly, had electrician come in and check everything to make sure none of the wiring had been damaged and all seems good.

Problem now over last 4 days is every time we have a power cut, and it comes back on, anytime I turn something on the lights dim. After about 30min they go back to normal and it doesn't happen again until next power out.

Would this be city power ****ing around with power or has electrician missed something?

Seems more like a local fault than a City Power issue. Have you reported it? Are your neighbours experiencing the same problem?

City Power said it was an MV fault on tuesday that caused the problem. Neighbour seems to be fine, I have reported it to city power but still waiting. Electrician said its probably their side, something about it being unstable when power comes back on and needs to balance or something.

When the lights go dim its called a brown out (low voltage, bad for electronics)

Well, whats left:(

Would that be a supply problem? Electrician said they can't do anything else until city power fixes the area problems(which has now been over 6 months, so not holding my breath). Trying to figure out if I should get someone else in to check or take his word. House was rewired a couple of years back, so its all new, and worked great until 6months back with weekly blackouts and now since tuesday, this 'dimming' when they get power back on. Should I be turning mains off and wait 30min or so to give it time to 'normalise' or something if it is them?

What area are you in?

We call that "Brown Power" up here on the mine, all our electronics and fridges are on protection circuits because of this....lost three compressors in an hour once...... this is due to the aging electrical reticulation system of the town and sometimes we even lose on of the three phases....... not much the mine will do about it, they need to replace the entire electrical network.....

Craighall Park

Just called another electrician just to double check things. Don't want to have to deal a fire or something

Edit, found problem, city power fixed it
