Civilizaion 4 online problems

Hi, I;m REALLY getting ******-off with this game. I can't play online, the game keeps freezing while I'm playing. This happens when I join other online servers. But when I create my own server it happens about 30% of the time. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this.

Ive got 384kbps internet connection

A patch was released by Firaxis a couple of weeks ago - multiplayer was listed as one of the major fixes.
