Civilization fans are in for a treat this year with the release of Sid Meier and crew’s console-adapted version of the extremely popular social engineering simulator onto the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles in the form of Civilization: Revolution. It will also be released to the Nintendo DS handheld in July.
In the game, you will be able to choose from 16 civilizations throughout history ranging from Africa to China and many more! When you choose a Civilization, you play as one of the world’s most famous historical leaders, among them Abraham Lincoln, Mao Zedong and others whilst creating your own history in competition with other leaders.
The game features real time interaction with leaders and advisors who in turn are aware of their surroundings in the game in a way few games are. Being a console game competing against First Person Shooters (who dominate the market) the team from Firaxis had to bring a ton of action into the game. Time scales have been streamlined in order to give younger players what they want, being ACTION ALL THE TIME! I am coining the term AATT as the golden rule for creating and adapting games for young people today. They want AATT!
Multiplayer functionality was necessary as many gamers refuse to buy games with only single player capabilities. The game features Hot Join functionality where you can join games already running. Simultaneous moves allows you to move when you are ready and the player can withdraw early without affecting others remaining in the game. You can also Team play. The multiplayer Xbox-Live experience allows you to play up to four players as teams, head to head or free for all.
The reviews have been very good so far with the game scoring above 8/10 in the prominent ratings.
