I'm annoyed as hell! The bloody game just won't work. Tried all the fixes described on the civiv website, but no luck.

I've got a Radeon 9600 gcard, running the latest omega drivers (tried the ati drivers as well). Tried to unpack the graphics, but the the game just randomly crashed after i started playing. (Seems like this is mostly an ATI graphics card problem. How these people missed the fact that graphic cards used by a significant number of gamers won't work is beyond me. B@stards... And I had to pay bloody R350 for the game! Maybe thats why bootleg copies are so popular. At least you expect halve of those games not to work!)

Anyone else had this problem? How did you sort it out?

sorry, have Nvidia and no issues... maybe some ATI users will post a fix for you... i dont think the latest Civ patch 1.09 will solve it either...

Civ 4 patch is apparently in final testing and is supposed to fix a number of issues , memory leaks and support for specific cards.

My issue with the game is that apparent memory leak.
By 1700AD when most of the fog of war is gone the memory Civ uses sits at about 470MB. Ending your turn results in about a 5 - 10 MINUTE wait for the new turn too start.

Hopefully that is sorted out in the patch.

I've got an ATI x800 and I'm not experiencing any issues.:D
Game is incredible!

@BrendenB

Lucky bum ......

I would have loved to have seen the game maybe stretched a bit further to the point where spacestations are built and you can then move your colonies to another planet ..... perhaps even launching off world attacks.....
Yeah yeah ..... i know it's a far stretch...

Problem is though, too addictive!
Maybe I can sue them for lack of sleep.... ponders.....

its got the vicious JOMT syndrome....

Just One More Turn

:D

21:00 -- Loads up save game.
23:00 -- Getting late, I should finish up this round.
00:00 -- No, really, I should stop.
01:30 -- What! I've got to get up at 05:30 for work.
02:00 -- Too late anyway! Might aswell make it an all nighter...
< Hi my name is brenden and I'm a civ4 addict.... *silence* Hello brenden!>

I e-mailed Fraxis about 2 weeks ago asking them they had plans to port a Civ game to the PSP ..... now that would be an awesome game for the PSP .....

No response yet .....

If you go from the menu to Advance -> Check for updates then it does have a patch available (V109patchrel).

Thanks AdLo, tried all the fixes (including the one on civfanatics), and as far as I can see I have two options left. Wait for the patch and see if that resolves my graphic issues. Or buy another card (Nvidia this time). Had some graphic issues with Transport Giant as weel, so maybe a new card is not such a bad idea.

Civ must be one of my all time favorite games, and having it installed on my computer not being able to play is TORTURE!

but the patch is out since yesterday? or you refering to a newer patch than 1.09?

well i would say before spending money

reload use drivers that came with your vga card and see how it runs

Installed patch, now Civ starts, but then randomly crash while I'm playing. Installed and uninstalled a whole number of old and new drivers. Same problem. Had similar problems with one or two other games bfore. Decided to upgrade Graphics acc card.

Loaded the patch and the game runs sooooo much better now....

On another note. I dropped Firaxis a line to see if they have a Civ for PSP planned in the future. Their response below.

"I completely agree with you. Hopefully the acquisition by 2K Games will
prompt more handheld development."

There is hope ;)

And on another side note PSP Firmware 2.60 is out today.
