So after much anticipation, my Civilization V Collectors Edition and Standard Edition copies just arrived at my door via courier. :)

So I rip open the packaging, practically throw the disk into my PC and begin installation, it asks for the CD-Key, I enter it and steam sadistically says the following:

"Not Available"

"Sorry, but the following items are not available for purchase in this country. Your purchase has been cancelled."

Followed by my "WTF!" face and my mouth hanging open staring blankly for a few minutes...

I'm assuming this has to do with the official release date in SA being 2am tomorrow morning? Any ideas?

Hear stuff like this all the time on the Steam forums from people who get copies early from stores that do not know any better.

Collectors edition AND standard edition?

Yeah, the CE is a birthday gift for my dad, the standard edition is for me. I was thinking about registering a steam account for my dad based in the US and then trying to install that as he doesn't have a steam account yet, but too much effort, will wait till 2am and see what happens.

It'll be unlocked tomorrow. 'cept if you have US VPN access...

Yea just had the same issue when trying to install my copy i received this morning,
REALLY hope it is just because of the "official release date".

It is dude. Just chill. It'll be right tomorrow.

Meh... This is rather frustrating, does anyone know the reasons for the later release dates than the US? I know it's fairly common for a number of games to have different release dates and times, but what is the point? Bragging rights for the arrogant Americans or something to do with the logistics of moving copies of the game here? Which still doesn't apply to Steam downloads, or is there a bandwidth issue where they expect the rest of the world to wait so they can get better speeds? I just don't get it.

So annoying sitting here with the legit product in front of me but not being able to install and even play single player... I also see there is already a pirated version available for download as of last night, it's enough to make me download the pirate version just so I can start enjoying the game a few hours earlier. I wonder how many sales are lost due to release times, probably not enough for them to care, but I'm sure there are people who would have bought the game, but decided to get the pirate version because it was available before the legitimate one. :(

Welcome to the world of DRM. Where paying customers get screwed over.
Yay for us.

I didn't even need an alarm to wake up, my body instinctively woke up at 1:52am for this. Still annoyed.

haha, funny you should say that...

No, it's not working, seems a number of people in the UK, Scotland, Poland, Sweden and South Africa who purchased the retail copies are having the same problem.

"Not Available in your Country"

:mad::mad::mad:

Edit: Yay, they fixed it, installing now.
