So I am a classic gamer. I don't game online and for most of my gaming life I alternate playing the occasional new game but mostly getting games that are a few years old but where the best game of their year. I also go back to my old favourites a lot. I'm bored of the stuff I am playing right now so I am looking for a new golden oldie (or a new game) to play. I mainly like strategy games and the occasional RPG. Games I replay often so that you can get a feel for my tastes:
Any Blizzard game (Warcrafts, starcrafts, Diablo II, etc)
Heroes quest 1-3
Moo 1 and Moo 2
Starcon 2
UFO (the original)
Rome Total War
Freelancer
Civ IV

For varying reasons I can't use steam right now so any steam only game is out. Some that I have heard about that might be good are the homeworld series, Galactic Civ series, and Torchlight series. Any other recommendations or comments on the games mentioned? For now I am still playing a little MOO 1 as I missed that and jumped directly to MOO2 somehow so I am back filling that classic.

knights of the old republic 1 & 2 were very fun to me
empire at war (star wars strategy game)
homeworld was very very cool back in the day!

beyond good and evil, if you havent played this game i would definitely recommend it.
then my favourite strategy games are:

dawn of war
company of heroes

Heroes of might and magic 3 (the series became meh after 4 IMO)
Dragon Age Origins (The sequel is very dumbed down)
Emperor: Battle for Dune

I love classic games

Heroes of might and magic 2 & 3
dungeon keeper 1 & 2
theme hospital

gog has a nice catalogue

Space quest series
Leisure suit Larry series
Flash back
Out of this World
System Shock 2

Thanks! That gives me a lot of ideas and things to try out. Will also check out GOG.

I am a Point and Click, Adventure, Action Adventure, RPG and Indie (independent) Adventure FREAK! I own almost all the classics and new releases. My garage is stacked with old game boxes…

I see you belong in another genre…

Although I will recommend this:

- Little Big Adventure 1-2 (GoG is supporting the LBA 1 remake which can in return deliver us LBA 3)
- Tex Murphy series
- All LucusArts adventure games
- All Sierra classics
- Gabriel Knight series (recommended within the Sierra Collection)
- Blade Runner
- Realms of the Haunting
- Time Commando (back in the day, the replay value was excellent)
- GTA 1-2 (probably still the best Mulitplayer games ever to kill time, oh and 1nsane)
- All Sierra classics
- Interstate '76 + Plus expansion pack
- Beyond Good & Evil

There is so much more!
