When thinking of selling something through the various online sites, I always wonder which is the saftest ... for example won't touch Gumtree, but seem to trust MyBB more than most ;)

How could one reduce scammers on a classadd site?
Proper registration linked to ID?
A subscription service?

Nowhere is really safe of scammers. Carbonite/Prophecy has seen its fair share. I have no issues with gumtree personally - have sold and bought extensively and never been ripped off. It's all about YOU being the careful one - taking the basic precautions before selling anything; i.e. does this person have rep, will they pay cash, can you check it out before buying, etc etc.

cerebus - thanks!

So if I created a classified advert that

a) You need to register with names AND ID number (like Bidorbuy)
b) Limit to SA Citizen
c) Pay system (ie R5 to display 2 numbers etc)

I know it wouldn't eradicate, but I'm thinking with these systems it would reduce the odds?

Just work on a cash-only basis. That's the only surefire way to not get scammed.
