Cleaning a Camera Body

A kid spilled some raspberry cooldrink on my camera a couple of weeks ago :crying:

I tried to wipe it down as quickly as possibly but the built-in flash, dials and buttons tend to stick a bit now. I've been using earbuds with a drop of water to loosen them up before shooting, but they stick again when it dries out. It doesn't seem to be getting better.

Any advice on what I could use to clean it? It's a Nikon D7000. The release-mode dial and multi-selector (choosing focus points) are the worst.

I phoned the Nikon service center but they can't give me an estimate. Does anyone have an idea of what a standard service costs?

There's nothing else wrong with it, only two months old. Can't decide if I should send it in now (I'm in Bloem) or live with it and wait until the sensor needs cleaning at least.

Is the D7000 not water resistant?

I've heard of people running water over their camera bodies in situations like these, not that I'm recommending it.

Yeah, I'll send it in on Monday (would like to have the camera this weekend) and post when they get back to me.

Im not sure of the standard service costs, but I was shooting a gig event and in the heat of the moment i quickly changed my CF card, inserted the CF card incorrectly and bent one of the pins, Had to send it to Nikon service centre, They replaced the CF board, Total cost of R1000, Was without my camera for 4 days, Not sure if your problem might involve more labour and replacing of parts, but i doubt it will be as serious as taking the camera apart and replacing the CF board ?

Where are you located ?

Nikon offers free lifetime cleaning though I'm not sure that will apply if they have to open it up. I had Nikon in Centurion clean my D3000 before I sold it - didn't cost anything.

I'm in Bloemfontein.

It's actually a lot better now, I've been cleaning it every day with more water than before (wet cotton wads). It's only the release-mode dial that's still quite stiff when I get home in the evenings. I'll see how things go but I doubt I'll need to send it in.
