Now my car is quite old and has all these stains on it that i can't get off just by washing....

Can I get a drill attachment for polishing and then buff them off using some car polishing compound? Which one?

Thanks.

regular car polish should do the trick. you can buy a tin at your local supermarket. i'm not a fan of mechanical polishers personally. more aggressive burnishing compounds from an auto shop are typically for new paintwork which is thicker. the risk of using one of these on an old paint job is that you take too much off and get down to the primer.
most carwashes should do it for under R100 and will save you the tin of polish and shlepp.

Polishing / buffing with power tools is risky and though it may look good it removes paint from the bodywork.. not sure you want to rush into that in Durbans rusty climate.
Best to wash first and then use some car polish with some elbow grease on the spots.
Midas should have better advice.

Hi. I belong to the e30clubsa forum. There is a reputable guy who sells Meguiars. I think they also do polishing or can recommend someone.

Here's the details:

Tel: (031) 569-2221
E-Mail: [email protected]
Website: www.meguiars.co.za

I have seen cars after been treated with these products and the end result is nothing short of exceptional.

So far, what I have used on my cars is Diamond Guard, a good sponge to first wash the car properly, then dry with a real leather chamois, followed by applying polish on dry paint with a clean soft cloth. Takes about a whole day but also does a good job. However, the results from professionals using Meguiars are much more impressive.

Definitely wouldn't recommend anything to do with a drill. Would recommend a polish with a dual action polisher. Don't both with those R300 shield jobs. Meguiars have a "hobbyist" one called a G220. You can get it with a selection of pads and polishes for about R2600 but that's 26% of the price of your car. Also best to clay the car first and some clay+lube will be around R300. Maybe take some pics of the "stains" and post here.

Get it done professionally.
Once its been sorted then wash regularly and polish once a month to keep it purdy.

Yeah you can get a full detail done for about R1500-2000.

Woah guys that's expensive....

Is there no way I can do it myself.... I'm talking about one of those polishing attachments for a drill?

The stains are the like of insect blood and bird poop that I dunno why they don't come off....

I have tried manual polish using this miraplate polish stuff but it didn't work at all.... And my car is white so it's really hard to see where I have applied the stuff and if I have gotten it off.

No, do not use a drill. You are also likely to stuff things up if you don't know what you are doing. Take it to one of the many places that does this and pay them.

Pooky, you are using the wrong polish. Mirrorplate is simply a wax and will not remove stains. You need something with a bit of a bite to it like CARNU...and then plenty of elbow grease...the way we used to do it just after Noah let us off the Ark..:D
