I was wondering how well cleverly thought up quick and easy URL's worked, as far as marketing is concerned.

I came across www.getfood.co.za and www.getwine.co.za - Both cleverly link to appropriate websites.

Does anyone think these URL's have the intended impact / effect???

Its not spam. I work for a online marketing company and want to run a similiar proposal by my channel manager.

Looking for insights or any smart ideas that would work with financial products and insurance.

There was a study done recently that showed that URL names have very little impact. Content is everything. My FIL owns www.leather.co.za - as you can guess it's not exactly a churning revenue stream.

But surely theres SOME benefit to be had??? If you come across www.thefinancialmarket.co.za and then www.buyshares.co.za - Which are you more likely to remember and most use of??

I know nedbank used it for one of their promotions to sell more cheque accounts recently. It was a phrase like www.iwanttoberich.co.za or something, So from a purely marketing aspect, there's gotta be something in it. Nonetheles more research is in order i reckon

If you site is something like food.co.za or wine.co.za and not just a redirect then it would help you in search engine rankings for that particular term. I really doubt many people will just type in "getwine.co.za" if they want wine and they haven't heard of it before. I think in the early days of the internet people were likely to type in things like "sex.com" etc which is why that domain is so valuable. Now most browsers etc have integrated search etc so you can just type in "wine" somewhere rather than guessing a url.

Absolutely right. If anything you are MORE likely to be remembered for an interesting memorable name - i.e. Gizmodo, IGN, yahoo, google, craigslist, ebay etc - than some bland product-centered google page rank domain.

True. And if for eg "gizmodo" is advertised somewhere else and their url actually happened to be gizmodo.net when I google "gizmodo" they will likely be the first result. Whereas if I had games.net and someone couldn't quite remember and googled "games" it's not quite as likely to be the first result.
