Click, Print, Shoot: Downloadable guns possible

I really don't think we have much to worry about, not until the materials used improve to the point where they can withstand the stresses involved without breaking soon. It would however be able to produce a decent model from which you can make a cast.

EDIT: Come to think of it, anyone willing to go through the process and expense of making a cast, may as well just use a decent CNC.

This has been discussed... do the math guys 20K for a makerbot (most popular 3D printer) or about 9K to build a decent reprap model yourself. ABS is the best material to print with, but it will not withstand the stresses & heat of a firing round of ammo. ABS melts at about 200C and flows via the extruder head at about 230C. First shot will either break or melt the firing chamber. And like I said before... for 9K you can get a whole hell of a lot on the street gun wise ...

As for the DRM ?!? wtf u guys smoking... all these hobbiest 3D printers run on open source software....

The cast point is a good one.

Until Al-Aqaeda and the likes get onto this.
They don't need multiple rounds fired off on a plane, just a couple.
 
Mmmm... Are they printing barrels, firing pins, springs, cartridges and powder?
Nope. They are printing stuff you can make with resins and moulds anyway.
