Did Gareth Cliff overstep the line in terms of how far one can go on-air?

What a pathetic bunch Christians (and religious zealots generally) are. They claim to have faith, but are so insecure about it, that they get offended whenever their faith gets questioned. Yet at the same time, they reserve the right to question all other beliefs including atheism. Is that not ever so slightly hypocritical?

1 - he was not creating propaganda for war.
2 - he's words may have stirred emotion, but no violence would've come from this. probably just hate mail etc... he is a radio presenter. he is supposed to talk about things that gets people to tune in.
3 - may i remind you that he was not speaking ill of religion. he passed a comment about God. he did not advocate hatred based on any of those things that you mentioned:
Did you even read what I said?

i absolutely agree with you

Fact is: God is not to be played down any where. If you believe in him or not. There is a huge Majority of the World that does belive in God. So if you want to be doing something so utterly stupid, don't do it in the Public broadcasting sector

You sure Christians are in the majority?

And does that mean that everyone else's beliefs (or lack of) do not deserve to be heard?

Fsck that. Gareth Cliff has as much right to speak his beliefs as you do yours.

Christians has always been tollerent of many things.
ROFLMAO

But thats besides the point.

This is a freedom of speach issue. These Christians are outraged because Cliff doesn't believe in god and dares to be open about that. Or at least they feel that if he doesn't believe in god he must keep quite about it. Not believing in god does not equate to hate speach against religion.

Fresh from their success in brow beating the Rapport, the religious right extends their new crusade to 5FM.

No, Christianity may be the most popular religion, but with 2.1 billion adherents (from your first link) they are still a global minority.

Yea Christians are

Within Chritianity you get different forms, but all believing in the same God.
I can't believe you guys want to argue something of which you have no knowlage of

How is the most adherents = to a minority?

well there's 2 ways of looking at it. you can either say 4.4 billion people are non-christian and hence the non-christian's are in majority, or you could look at which individual religions which have the most followers. in the latter case, christianity would probably be the majority. i can't see any other religion which has more than 2 odd billion followers. i stand under correction.
the 4.4 billion is a combined total of all non-christians, but not which specific religion is dominant. ie: they consist of Indian, Jewish, Muslim etc...

A lot of touchy people here. If you don't like it, switch the fscking radio off! Geez...

The question remains (trying to get back on track) was he right in being so crude to the listener... I accept that it is blown out of proportion, hence my first post, but is he right or wrong?

In his reply to the complainant he said there is no god, no easter bunny or father christmass.

Where was he crude? He told her something she really didn't like and didn't beat about the bush about it, but he was not crude, or even rude.
