Clinobrite pool filter material

Hi, thanks for your reply. Do you want to expand upon your reasoning?
I posted a link highlighting the differences. When I replaced mine last year I phoned a few pool places and they all recommended glass.

From those who have used Clinobrite on this thread, and bad news? Even from those who previously said good things, still happy?
Now 11 years on the original batch of Clinobrite and still going strong!

One thing to note : I have heard some people (most recent was someone in a pool shop) say that Clinobrite has to be regenerated with salt solution periodically, or else it "stops working". I have not found that to be the case - I find it is actually very tolerant and works well even when left alone. At one point the screw bushes around my filter lid started getting a bit fragile so I was hesitant to open it up too often. The Clinobrite still worked fine even without being re-generated. That said, it probably depends on bather load and the presence of other contaminants (suntan oil etc).

Thanks for this. Getting my pool renovated (retiled completely) and have gone with Clinobrite. Probably about two weeks away from putting water in the pool

So what is your setup besides the pool filter . i.e extra filters etc

Hey SFW007

I don't use any other filtration device(s).
As regards filtration, the only other thing I sometimes do is add a bottle of filter flocculant if the pool picks up a lot of very fine sediment. This typically happens after very heavy rains when a lot of dust gets washed into the pool, perhaps 2 or 3 times during an average summer. Flocculant binds to fine dust particles and forms larger particles that are more easily picked up by the pool cleaner and then removed by the filter. There are several flocculant products around, in the form of :
My favourite is the HTH Sparkle-It liquid, the only slight downside being that it makes the water slightly milky-white for about 24 hours. The new nano-gel cubes are quite good for a quick 'polish' with no visible side-effects.

As regards the rest of my setup (approx 45,000 litre pool), it is :
  • Single weir offtake, 2 return lines
  • Speck Porpoise 90/16 pump (0.75kW shaft output)
Flow-rate is around 225 litres/minute, giving me a 'turn time' of around 3.3 hours
  • Old Swimline 610 4-bag sand filter charged with 4x25kg Clinobrite
(to be replaced with a Speck Aquaswim 4 filter, one day soon)
  • Zodiac TRi-Midi salt chlorinator
  • Zodiac TRi-pH automatic acid doser (heavily modified)
(To anyone considering this - don't! As it comes stock from Zodiac, the acid pump setup on this unit is a disaster)
  • 'Poolskim' leaf skimmer
  • Custom timer/control system that varies running time with time of year.
This is arranged to give average daily run-times that range from about 5 hours in mid-Winter (1.5 turns per day), to about 9 hours in peak Summer (about 3 turns per day).

We replaced our filter sand with Clinobrite today. Hoping for several years of improved filtration! This thread convinced me to make the change.

We replaced our normal silica sand with Clinobrite a month ago,and we are today throwing out the Clionbrite. The pool has never been as dirty ever in its life time. The Clinobrite excretes a milky type of fine dust into the pool every time the pump starts running. Despite back washing etc it does not stop. Biggest mistake we ever made.

Yup had the same issue and after a year of struggling back and forth with the manufacturer changed back to sand and back to normal

I was looking to get Clinobrite last season. Our local pool shop advised very strongly against it, so I got glass. It is working fine so far...
