Fix the SABC before it dies

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has a critical role in South Africa as the country's public broadcaster. If it were to collapse, it would be disastrous for TV in the country.

This is according to experienced TV industry journalist Thinus Ferreira, who told 702 that he fears for the public broadcaster's future, without which many of the country's residents would lose access to critical information.

The clock ticking for SABC...

tik tok, tik tok, tik...

Tik Tok didn't kill the radio star, it killed the TV.

The fact that the SABC needs to be fixed, has been obvious, for way too many years, but private agendas, in government keep kicking that can down the road. Typically African, they want, but don't want to contribute.

Some have the "brilliant" idea, that those who have no use, or interest in the SABC must pay for it.

Well, the message, that - that kite, is not going to fly, is starting to sink in - tho it may take a few more decades, for that message to be understood. Which will be way to late for the SABC.

Then those who are currently "fiddling while Rome burns" will have to face the even more unplatable reality, of paying, to build the SABC from the ground up.

Such is life in Africa.

Riding the SABC train now, I see. I suspect MyDSTV will be back soon.

This is quite telling: "Not a lot of countries have a public broadcaster". So why exactly to do we need one? It is decades since I last watched anything by SABC. I get my news by online newspapers, social media, Carte Blanche, etc.

The SABC itself was born out of a need for propaganda. It may be needed by the State if they wish to bend things again, but we have lots of 3rd party production companies, news channels, etc.

Many rural people still rely on their old tv's and radios for any connection to the world.
And naturally the govt. will milk that. In fact, which standard govt. wouldn't?

Only our government, takes it to a totally different level, but then it has been a very fluid and wide channel for Cadre self enrichment ...

People are now awake enough to know the media lies, that most of the news is little more then propaganda meant to elicit a reaction. Given that the SABC is the ANC scums mouthpiece, we can do without it, I certainly haven't watched their nonsense since at least 1985 and i certainly wouldn't cloud my mind with their drivel now.
