So recently I noticed on my e-toll bills that the image of the car passing through the gantry is not my car. Its a BMW and I dont drive a BMW. Number plate is the same as my car.

So what do I do about this situation?

From a traffic fine perspective - i could be getting nailed for this guys fines. From an etolls perspective i am not too concerned at the moment because i dont actually pay e-tolls but i am not sure how much of the bill is actually for this other car and how much is legitimately mine?

Any advise on how to sort out this mess?

Open a case with SAPS.

Using the case number report it to SANRAL to take care of any e-toll bills.

Using the case number go to your nearest traffic department and report the cloning.

I had the same thing happen to me and I just faxed the traffic dept until the notices stopped.

I would go to the SAPS with those fines as well as your eNatis docs and make an affidavit.

I dont have any eNatis document - my car is financed and belongs to the bank. Anything else i need to use or do I need to request a copy from the bank?

Perhaps omit the SANRAL thing? Why tempt fate? Its not like they are going to successfully extort money. But approaching them will open a floodgate of sms / emails and other empty threats.

Yeah - concerned about this.

Do i need to change my number plate or take any other action apart from reporting the case?

I think i may have to - i dont see the SAPS trying to find the cloned car and owner - which is just going to mean the constant administrative burden of having to prove i wasnt responsible for a fine or e-toll charge

Fines would be scrapped as it's not even the model of the car the plate is registered to. Just an admin headache though...

See if there's any pattern in his travel habits.

Ambush him, beat the crap out of him... Take your BMW

As already stated, the sooner you tackle this particular problem the better off you will be. The admin is quite a bit of work.

An example of where our Law breaks down completely. You are guilty until you take the trouble to prove your innocence.

E-tolls? well, SANRAL could well prove more difficult to crack, especially if you also use the roads and have not being paying.

Thats the issue
