Help! Can anyone help me, pretty please?

I want to buy a notebook/laptop PURELY for creative purposes : i.e. some graphic design (only use Adobe Photoshop) and to write my book(s).

I need to be able to email, do research and download images, fonts etc off the Net --- not interested in downloading huge files like movies, music etc.

What is the best (i.e. most economical and fastest) option for me?

{utterly clueless}:o

Merci

Thanks -- that's very interesting... but: :( i only have about R9000 to spend... And Macs are pretty pricey (or so i've heard...

I got a good quote from a friend who can get me an acer travel-thingy for R7500 (on a bit of a budget!!) Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the acer.

internet connection : now what?

And what about ADSL, a 3G card etc: I will only be working in the evenings and weekends (from home) -- and don't have a phone line at home... And I don't think I could afford more than about R200 - 300 a month on an internet connection... How exactly does a 3G card work? Is it something you buy from Vodacom?

Yeah, the Acer TravelMates are quite nice. I'd recommend looking into a core2duo system. For the money you've got you should be able to get something decent! Other than that, the sky's the limit. Your needs are fairly basic so anything should do.

Can't really comment on web access. ADSL works best for me (high-usage) but Sentech, Vodacom and MTN have recently dropped their prices and for low-usage I'd recommend one of their packages. Browse through the news section. Plenty of articles that do comparisons.

Yip, at the low end I'd go for a MTN / VodaCom 3G package. By far the cheapest options
