Geez, this is gonna sound clueless ! I apologize in advance.

I have been an ISDN user for about three years now and have avoided the whole ADSL scene due to the capping & shaping. Can someone tell me step by step how I could get uncapped, unshaped,ADSL that will work with P2P. I've seen some posts refering to Mr Beep etc but I just don't get it ?

What must I do and how much will it cost to get the whole biz up and running. I have a very fast PC and get about 20Gigs a month downloaded via ISDN but it costs me around R2000 bucks!

Is there a better solution on ADSL or is it wishfull thinking at this stage.

Hi Btech,
For what you are spending now you could get Adsl 1024 and 2x 30gig accounts and download to your hearts content.

To avoid the shaping on p2p you can sign up for a proxy server with MRBEEP or Clipse to bypass the shaping.

Adsl

Hi,

Convert to ADSL. Total cost per month (Until November) will be R199/30GB + telkom subscription of R89 for Line and R279 for 192K option which is way below the ISDN price and 3 times the speed.
Total R567.

Going for a 512K line will still be below R1000 / month = HUGE saving on ISDN price

From November (who knows) but I reckon it will still be cheaper or the same downloading 20GB using ADSL than ISDN.

Keep your ISDN, ADSL is gonna be crap from 1st of nov.

Stay with the ISDN for now, get the infiniti call and your calls during callmore time with be capped at R8.00. Only use during callmore time. I'm downloading about 16Gig/month and costs me between R600-R750.

:( Looks like I should wait for november then ? SlowKom will probably only process my application in the new year even if I apply now :p . I checked hellkom out and I cant believe that they (Slowkom) want us to pay per gig !! Thats crazy!

BTW I have infinitcall but Telkom loves to drop the connection. On a weekend I need to reconnect about 5 times average. I never have problems in the week but weekends are a killer !

Thanks for the replies.
