Clutch cable

Wear and tear causes it to break. The Polo/Golf clutch cable has to follow a certain route in order to work smoothly. Sometimes cables are fitted a little off that path, and they start wearing because of the skew pressure being put on them.

The Jetta I drove in December had the same cable bought in Zimbabwe in January 2000 (the factory fitted one had lasted 4 years at that point...the one we fitted has now lasted 10 years, and looks like handling another ten at this stage!), so decently fitted cables should last indefinitely. The VW cable is not expensive, but an absolute Cow to fit if you don't know what you are doing. Someone who is experienced should take about 10 minutes from start to finish. If you cock it up, it's another story..........

VW, eish!

In Odensdaalsrus is a place called Denrus engineering who make any cable, Paid R50 the other day for one.

Good advice. Get an engineering firm to make up a heavy duty cable for you. Squirt some lithium grease into the casing before fitting.
