Very sad, amazing the smoking and drinking didn't kill him.
Depression is terrible.

Been watching all his old series lately.

This is probably one of the most genuine "real" non-celebrity honest types that have been on TV in ages. Or do you prefer all people on TV to be plastic and vapid?

But that is exactly why I asked the question because he is very celebrity like and doesn't have an air of superiority.

The very thing you are disliking celebrities for is the very same thing I made my statement about...yet you think it's a weird statement when I say it?

I completely get where you are coming from with regards to celebrities in general, but Anthony Bourdain never fell in that category at all which is why I like to think he was much liked.

If anything he is as anti-celebrity as it gets.

Enjoyed his shows but there was always that drab gray depressing Canada/UK vibe to him and his shows so cannot say that I'm shocked.

He worked in the back of a kitchen until he was 44 years old. A magazine article he wrote while doing that led to Kitchen Confidential. I don't think he ever lost sight of that... Dude took the piss out of hipster **** like pumpkin lattes and farm-to-table and never judged a soul on this planet. He made a lot of folk look at food and people who weren't like them in a new way.

It's a sad, sad day.
