Just a general question.

Why is Afrihost's domain registration so expensive for a .co.za domain? I mean, R197 registration is quite expensive while other hosting companies like Domains.co.za, HostAfrica, Xneelo etc... only charge R89 registration fee. It's a R108 difference.

I considered opening and moving my whole reseller, where I currently host 102 domains to Afrihost, but juts for the fact that their registration fee is so high, I don't see the point. It means that if I were with Afrihost, registering 102 .co.za domains would have cost me R11 016 more on registration fees than what I paid through another hosting provider.

If you have the domains already you can do a transfer, most domains do not have a transfer fee. I know .com domains do though.

If you sign up a domain for shared hosting it is free, only pay the annual renewal fee for the domain.

And of course the monthly hosting package. I know before if you signed up a new domain for shared hosting and a few months down the line you change it to pointing/parking, and then use DNS to point it to your reseller, there is a fee of R97 once off and sometimes there is no fee.

Thank you, yes I know the .co.za domains can be transferred for free and the renewal is only like R97, but still, even if I move everything, it still means registering new domains going forward is very expensive and not worth it.

Say in a year's time, I may need to register 50 more .co.za domains when using Afrihost as service provider, it won't be worth it in the long run as it would cost me R5400 more than with another hosting provider.

You can talk with Afrihost about bulk registration if that is what you plan to do. They will most probably give you a discount of sorts.

Don't think they will bite, if so, then they would have mentioned/included it into their Reseller Hosting packages. Any reseller would do bulk registrations over a period of time.

Registering one or two domains as a single user is maybe not an issue paying R197 registration fee, but for Resellers who register many domains over a period of time, it's a quite expensive route to take in the long run.
